Privacy policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026 · Effective: 27 July 2026

The short version: your inventory — boxes, items, photos, and notes — is stored on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, in your own private iCloud account. We don’t operate a server that holds your inventory, and we cannot see it.

1. Who we are

Stow (“the app”) is an iPhone home-inventory app published by Jeffrey Kiyomura (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what happens to information when you use the app. If you only use the app and never contact us, we never receive your inventory data at all.

2. Your inventory content

Everything you create in Stow — locations, boxes, box codes, items, categories, notes, quantities, and photos — is written to a database stored locally on your device.

If you are signed into iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled for Stow, that database is also synced to your own private iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit service, so your inventory appears on your other devices. This copy lives in your Apple account, governed by Apple’s privacy policy. We have no ability to read, export, or recover it.

We do not sell your inventory data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

3. Camera and photo access

  • Camera. Used when you photograph an item or scan a QR or barcode label. Camera frames used for scanning are processed on your device and are not recorded or transmitted.
  • Photo library. Used only for photos you explicitly choose, and to save a QR label or export to your library when you ask for it.

You can revoke either permission at any time in iOS Settings; the rest of the app keeps working without them.

4. Advertising, purchases, and other services

Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version of Stow shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To serve them, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect device and usage information such as your device model, IP address, coarse location derived from that IP address, and advertising identifiers. On iOS, personalised advertising uses the Advertising Identifier only if you allow tracking when prompted; if you decline, you will still see ads, but non-personalised ones. Where required, we present a consent prompt before ads load. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services. Purchasing Stow Plus removes all ads.

Purchases (Apple)

Stow Plus is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple processes your payment and we never receive your card details. We receive only the anonymous purchase receipt needed to unlock the features on your devices.

Printable QR labels

When you generate a high-resolution printable QR label, the box’s short code and the matching organizer:// link are sent to a third-party QR image generation service in order to render the image. No item names, photos, or notes are included.

Barcode product lookup

If you scan a product barcode while adding an item, the barcode number alone is sent to a public product database to try to fill in the product name. Nothing else about you or your inventory is sent, and you can always type the name in manually instead.

Crash and diagnostic data

If you have opted into sharing analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymous crash reports. These contain no inventory content.

5. Sharing a location with other people

Stow lets you share a location with family or others through Apple’s iCloud sharing. When you do, the people you invite can see and (depending on the permission you choose) edit the boxes and items in that location. Sharing is handled entirely by Apple’s CloudKit sharing infrastructure. You can stop sharing at any time from the app.

6. Keeping and deleting your data

Because your inventory is stored on your device and in your iCloud account, you control how long it is kept.

  • Deleting a location, box, or item removes it from the app and from your iCloud copy.
  • Deleting the app removes the local database from that device.
  • To remove the iCloud copy as well, delete the app’s data from iOS Settings → your Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.

We hold no separate copy to delete. If you have emailed us for support, we keep that correspondence only as long as needed to resolve your question.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal data held about you, and to object to certain processing. Because we do not hold your inventory, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app and in your Apple account settings. For anything relating to advertising data collected by Google, please also see Google’s own controls and policies. If you would like help, contact us using the details below.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the advertising described in section 4.

8. Children

Stow is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will help.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
